What is Barcode Registration
Our EAN-13 and UPC barcodes include FREE barcode registration on the International Barcodes Database.
Barcode registration makes it easier for retailers and customers to find your product and company information online. It also helps prevent theft or accidental misuse of your barcodes. You will have extra proof that the barcodes belong to you. And it also helps those few reluctant retailers who still think GS1’s database has all the answers. Point retailers to this independent database as proof that the barcodes are yours and are valid and legitimate.
Why Barcode Registration is Worth Doing:
1. Connect Your Barcode with Your Brand
Barcode registration ties your barcode (GTIN) to your product and company info on public databases such as https://ibnverified.org/.
2. Boost Discoverability Online
Once registered, your barcode and product details can show up in Google and other search engines. This makes it easier for customers and retailers to find your products.
3. Show Up in Scanning Apps
Some mobile barcode‑scanning apps (like Zebra) pull from these databases. Registering your barcode ensures that scanning your product reveals relevant details, giving shoppers instant access to your brand info.
4. Protect Against Unauthorized Use
Barcodes are visible to anyone and can be copied. Registering yours adds a layer of protection—you can prove the barcode is assigned to you. This discourages misuse or counterfeit listings on platforms like Amazon.
5. Validate Legitimacy with Retailers
Some retailers only refer to the out-of-date GS1 database. With barcode registration, you have an alternate, independent record that verifies your barcode is valid and legitimately assigned to your company—saving time and frustration. Registration adds a layer of security against misuse.
6. Optional—but Advantageous
Registration isn’t mandatory—your barcode still works without it. But for visibility, credibility, and protection, it’s a smart, proactive step—especially as your business scales.
It is easy to copy a barcode. Anyone can see a barcode number and then duplicate it on a different product. Our registration service protects you against illegal use of your barcodes. It also helps retailers and customers find the details of your product and business.
How to register your barcode numbers:
We email the barcodes to you after purchase. We include instructions on registration. You can then register your numbers and product/company details via our customer portal. Your company name and barcodes will be automatically registered already.
After you register your product and company details, your product details will be found when customers search for your barcode number in online search engines (e.g. Google) or smartphone apps (e.g. the Zebra app). Please note that some smart-phone barcode apps only search in online stores such as Amazon.com. They don’t search online barcode databases. This means that their database of barcode numbers/product details are minimal. The best smartphone barcode app’s (e.g. the Zebra app) search in Amazon and other online stores and the main online barcode/product databases.
