Chooks at the Rooke

Chooks at the Rooke

If you haven’t tasted an egg from Chooks at the Rooke in Cororooke, Victoria, you haven’t truly experienced exceptional eggs. This family-run operation sets a gold standard for ethical farming and taste. They prioritize the welfare of their chooks above all else. Most commercial “free-range” labels mask high-density stocking rates. Owned by Xav Prime and Kimberley Burridge, along with a small team, they produce premium pastured eggs centred on animal welfare and sustainable farming methods.

The farm is certified “Pastured” also known as “Pasture Raised” by PROOF. This means their chooks are treated to a higher standard than what is the “Free Range” code of conduct. The birds live in mobile trailers. They move across fresh, chemical-free paddocks every few days. This practice ensures the soil remains healthy. It also gives the hens a constant buffet of insects, seeds, and lush grasses.

Taste the DifferenceIMG_1987

You can see the difference immediately upon cracking a shell. The yolks possess a deep, sunset-orange hue. The texture is thick and creamy. These eggs hold their shape perfectly in a poaching pan. The whites don’t run thin like supermarket alternatives. The flavor profile is incredibly robust. It carries a rich depth that only comes from a diverse, natural diet. Chefs across Western Victoria covet these eggs for a reason. High-quality ingredients define a dish. Chooks at the Rooke provides that foundation

Regenerative Ecosystem

Visitors to the Cororooke region can often see the “caravans” dotting the landscape. The hens spend their days soaking up the sun. They dust-bathe in the soil and live a life of genuine freedom. Happy hens simply produce better eggs. It is a biological fact.

The sustainability aspect works extremely well. By rotating the chooks, the farm naturally fertilizes the land. This reduces the need for synthetic inputs by creating a closed-loop system that respects the Victorian environment. They also participate in a carbon neutral program dedicated to the Victorian Volcanic Plains providing land to plant trees that provide micro climates for native flora and fauna, as well as draw in Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere and store it in the ground, reducing climate change.

We live in an era of disconnected food chains. Chooks at the Rooke  brings the consumer back to the paddock. They prove that premium quality doesn’t require industrial interference. Their eggs are a testament to what happens when farmers respect nature. Once you try them, you will never go back to “regular” eggs. Your morning toast deserves this level of excellence.IMG_7566
