ITF-14 Carton Code Calculator
Our ITF-14 Carton Code Calculator works out what the next carton code is for your new shipping carton (inner and outer/TUN/GTIN14). Our calculator not only validates your barcode numbers but also calculates the correct check digit.
How to Use the ITF-14 Carton Code Calculator
- In the box below enter the last ITF-14 carton code number you have for the product e.g. 10701197200002
- Change the first digit to the next number i.e. change the first digit 1 to 2. If you already have a carton code starting 2, then enter 3 at the start.
- The calculator will work out the new correct carton code number.
- Cut and paste this new number into the box on the checkout page to order that carton code barcode.
How ITF-14 Carton Codes work
Here is an example of how product and carton codes relate. For example, honey in 250gm jars with the barcode 0701197200005.
It is being shipped to the supermarket in a carton of 12 units. The carton will use ITF14 carton code based on the EAN-13 barcode 0701197200005. The carton code for 12 units is 10701197200002. A 1 has been added at the start. The last digit is a checksum so it changes.
One year later you change the shipper carton quantity to 24 units. You need a new carton code starting 2. The carton code for 24 units is 20701197200009.

Carton Code Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert an EAN‑13 (or other GTIN) into an ITF‑14 carton code?
Carton codes are based on the product code. They get a new digit at the front i.e. 1, 2, 3 to 8. Then the final digit (checksum) is recalculated.
What size should I print my ITF‑14 barcode?
Vendors detail standard dimensions, X‑dimension ranges, and bearer bar requirements. Please see our ITF-14 carton code dimensions table.
What do the first and last digits in the ITF‑14 code represent?
The first digit is the packaging indicator (defines packaging level), and the last is a check digit calculated via Modulo‑10.
How many carton codes can I make for one product?
Eight different carton codes can be made for each product barcode (1-8). 0 is normally left for mixed cartons and 9 is used only on variable-weight items.
