Barcodes for Cards
Greeting cards and post cards can be barcoded in 3 different ways:
1. Each card could have a different EAN-13 barcode
This is the option that we recommend. It is be best option because it is compatible with all retail systems, and it allows retailers to do an automatic stock-take. However it can be more expensive, because you have to buy one EAN-13 barcode per card (e.g. if you had 20 different cards, you would need to buy 20 x EAN-13 barcodes). You can view our prices, or place an order for EAN-13 barcodes below (please scroll to the bottom of this page).
2. You could get one 13-digit EAN-13 barcode number, and then add a 2-digit “supplement” barcode to the end of it (ranging from 01 to 99) to indicate the different cards
This is the middle price option (more affordable than option 1, but a bit more expensive than option 3). Please email us for a quote if you are interested in this option ([email protected]). Please note that some retail systems don’t recognise the extra supplement digits, so this will only work in some retail systems (please check with your retailer).
3. You could use the same EAN-13 barcode on all your cards.
This is the most affordable option. The disadvantage of this option is that your retailer’s will then have to manually check which cards are selling out the fastest, and do a manual re-order. Please note that a different EAN-13 barcode is needed for each different price category (if you have 3 different types of birthday cards – each for sale at a different retail price – then you will need 3 different EAN-13 barcodes). If you want to proceed with this option, please order your barcode(s) below. Our prices are one-off (no future fees), and you will receive your barcode(s) by email straight away.
